Myth #1: Beeswax purifies the air

Myth #2: Beeswax candles are extremely runny

When made properly, a beeswax candle will not drip at all. Drip is usually caused by poor wick selection, not the wax itself. However, drafts or uneven surfaces can also cause gentle dripping of candles. You can easily prevent this aesthetic detail by handling it properly and placing it steadily while burning. However, excessive drip cannot be fixed at home, it is caused by improper manufacturing. Some candles are designed to drip, but manufacturers should state this on the candle.


Myth #3: Beeswax candles burn faster than other candles

Beeswax has a higher melting point than most other waxes. This means that when used with the right wick, these candles burn with a long, steady flame. Always check the burn time information, which should be provided by each manufacturer, when purchasing.
Myth #4: Beeswax candles go out and don't burn well
TL;DR: They don't.
Again, this is a technical error in production – specifically the wrong type or thickness of the wick. If the manufacturer does not test the candles sufficiently, they may go out after a while. However, a quality candle will not go out and will burn reliably until all the wax is used up.
Myth #5: Beeswax candles smoke
TL;DR: They don't produce smoke.
While no candle is completely smokeless, beeswax candles do not smoke as much as other candles on the market when burned. Why does a candle smoke? With the right manufacturing and wick length, smoke production is minimal and your walls will remain clean, without the black marks that other types of wax sometimes leave.


Myth #6: Beeswax is hypoallergenic

Beeswax is a pure natural material and is usually well tolerated by people. It may however contain traces of pollen or propolis, which can cause a reaction in very sensitive people. However, without the pollen and other ingredients, the wax would not have its typical honey scent and color.
Myth #7: Beeswax is always yellow

The color of beeswax is never uniform. It depends on several factors. The origin of the pollen, the season and the processing method. The shades naturally range from light cream to rich, dark honey. These differences are a natural phenomenon and are not a sign of lower product quality. The white color of beeswax can be achieved, for example, by filtration, during which the wax loses not only its color but also its distinctive honey aroma.


Myth #8: The more honey-smelling the wax, the better quality it is

The intensity of the scent depends on the season and processing, not the quality. The way to tell if a beeswax is good is to look at its natural behavior. A mild, almost neutral scent is fine and often indicates a cleaner wax. Be wary if the wax smells like chemicals, as it may be mixed with stearin or paraffin.
Myth #9: All beeswax candles are the same
TL;DR: They are not.
Even with 100% beeswax, the result can be fundamentally different. The differences on the market are in the purity of the material, the honesty of the testing and the type of wicks used.
